36caracteres is an audiovisual translation company, specialised in film subtitling, theatre and opera surtitling and other translation, postproduction and management services associated with this discipline.

We are a group of subtitling specialists with extensive experience in this field. Since it was established in 2004, 36caracteres has been in continuous development, participating in many top level national and international projects.  We work for major distribution companies, cultural institutions, televisions, festivals and world famous theatre companies as well as for small production companies and independent filmmakers.

The main aspects of our work are:

• Translation: we work with professional translators who are specialised in subtitling, many of whom we have trained, and who follow the company’s style manual, ensuring rigour and consistency in all our translations. Furthermore, as part of our QC protocol, every work is revised  by a proofreader to ensure maximum quality.
• Computing tools:  we use professional subtitling software, which enables us to offer professional quality in our subtitles.
• R&D: 36caracteres is constantly researching and developing technical tools in order to offer new services or better quality in the existing ones. We develop customized applications, e.g. the software for our live subtitling systems used for film festivals and theatre surtitling, which ensures a quality in synchrony and subtitle projection that is hard to improve.
• Media accessibility: film subtitling and theatre surtitling offer the deaf and hard of hearing access to leisure, information and culture. We are proud that our work in subtitling, developing subtitling and surtitling projection systems, etc., helps facilitate media accessibility.
• Professional experience: along with a constant process of research, our experience allows us to offer a multitude of solutions for our clients’ needs. Our extensive linguistic and technical knowledge of subtitling means we can optimize the processes.
